A powerful 140-horsepower, 1.8-liter, 16-Valve, SOHC i-VTEC® engine comes standard on DX, LX and EX models.

Sophisticated suspension
Its sophisticated suspension has been engineered for a solid on-center feel, quick steering and excellent control.

Performance Features

  • 140-hp, 1.8-Liter 16-Valve SOHC i-VTEC® Engine Speed, power and performance. The 140-hp engine was made to achieve the fuel economy of a 1.5-liter engine, with an impressive 36 mpg highway and 25 mpg city (5AT models)*. A host of technologies including special engine mounts, newly designed crankshaft, engine block, pistons and connecting rods help achieve remarkable smoothness.
  • 5-Speed Automatic Transmission The electronically controlled 5-speed automatic transmission offers more gear ratios for quick acceleration and enhanced fuel economy. You get more power, smoother upshifts and downshifts and quieter operation.
  • 5-Speed Manual Transmission Honda engineers have designed a lightweight, compact 5-speed manual transmission. Drivers will appreciate its quick, precise shift action and solid, direct feel. The transmission is more robust and operates more efficiently than the previous model's, so reliability and good fuel mileage are additional benefits. It also creates less gear noise, contributing to a quieter cabin when driving.
  • Drive-by-Wire™ Throttle System Fast-responding electronics take the place of a traditional throttle cable and produce greater response, fuel economy and driveability with minimum adjustment and maintenance.

Safety

All essential and advanced safety features come standard—like the anti-lock braking system (ABS) with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD). These and other standard safety features helped the Civic earn 5 stars in NHTSA frontal crash tests,* the best possible rating.

Armored Car
Along with side-impact door beams, the Civic was built with an Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure to redirect crash energy around the passenger compartment. This reinforced body structure is designed to target the highest safety ratings for occupant protection.

Expanding Protection
While sharing our roads with many other drivers, a time may arise where collision is unavoidable. For superior defense during impact, Civic occupants are surrounded by no less than six airbags. The array of coverage includes dual-stage, dual-threshold front airbags, front side airbags with passenger-side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS) and side curtain airbags—all standard.

In Charge
Standard on every Civic, is a complement of advanced safety systems to keep you out of trouble and in command. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) alerts the driver when a tire’s pressure reaches a significantly low level.

* Government star ratings are part of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA’s) New Car Assessment Program (www.safecar.gov)

Environment

For three decades, Honda has played a leading role in meeting environmental challenges.

Yesterday
The Civic Coupe comes from a long line of environmentally friendlier vehicles. Way back in 1975, the Honda Civic CVCC became the first vehicle to pass the emissions requirement of the Clean Air Act without using a catalytic converter. The 2008 Civic features technological achievements that are every bit as impressive.

Today
Today's Civic Coupe sports a 1.8-liter engine that provides exceptional fuel economy (25 mpg city/36 mpg highway), and qualifies as an Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (ULEV) in all 50 states.
